Strange Pet Trends: Teacup Piggies & Chicken Diapers
71A lot of strange pet trends are leaving people a little amazed these days. When I was little, all I thought about were dogs and cats, but it seems that some people are going as far as housing micro pigs (aka teacup piggies) and keeping chickens that wear chicken diapers!
I don't know about you, but I generally think of piggies and chickens as either on a farm or on my dinner plate - not on a leash or curled up next to my feet.
Teacup Piggies
Teacup piggies have recently made their mark in the celebrity and news scene with piggies selling in the 700 pound range - and that refers to cost not weight. True teacup piggies grow to no more than 16 inches high and supposedly make great pets.
Teacup Piggies are:
- intelligent
- loving
- hypoallergenic
- clean
What most people don't know is that teacup piggies are actually smarter than dogs and can make for better companions if given the opportunity. Their ability to love and be loved, connect with other pets, as well as remember put them one step ahead on the pet chain.
Since teacup piggies don't have fur (they have hair), they are generally hypoallergenic. If your family is restricted to living without pets because someone has allergies, teacup piggies make for a great alternative. Furthermore, despite contrary belief, teacup piggies are clean.
Unlike dogs, teacup piggies are quiet since they don't bark. Even though they may squeal from time to time, their constant form of communication may not be so much of a nuisance.
Chickens Wearing Chicken Diapers
Chickens as pets! Who would have known? But, it appears that chickens can actually make for decent indoor pets if they are given chicken diapers to wear.
Chicken diapers are a real thing. I know because a friend of mine decided to bring up an indoor chicken, and since they can't be house broken, she had to purchase some of these cute little things to keep them tidy.
When choosing your chick to make for a pet, be aware that you could possibly be bringing home a rooster (as my friend eventually found out). She had to keep the rooster in a cage with a black cover in order to keep it from crowing in the early morning hours.
Also, it is a bit more difficult to keep chickens safe if you do happen to let them outside to roam. Just like you and me, local animals, such as dogs, can find the chicken quite a delicious meal. Letting pet chickens outside or taking them for walks is generally not a possibility.
Teacup Piggies and Chickens in Chicken Diapers
Teacup pigs and pet chickens wearing chicken diapers are just a couple of the strange pet trends making themselves known in the pet world today. There is an increasing number of people keeping sheep, deadly snakes and monkeys as pets. What's next on the mainstream pet list?
